I did not think about whether my example was accident or purpose, because the CDC numbers there were only separated by suicide or non-suicide on the webpage I was on (they had parenthesis stating "purposefully or accidental"). I just covered the chances of any gun-related thing happening to any one person.
Being someone who has trained people and merely been the dude hosting events with people shooting for the first time, they were simply scared the gun would bite. They looked at it and said "I don't know..." It took them actually shooting to really understand what I meant when I said, "guns usually go off when someone wants them to." And that is the target audience that I was focused on.
I could have broken it down to three parts: suicide, purpose, and accident like I've done before on other platforms. I might do it and write up a nice article a little later.
I'll probably use the analogy of blunt objects as I've done before, instead of trying to lighten the subject. I tried to lighten it up, but it seemed to be a fail.
Sorry to hear that you have been a victim of a shooting!
